The Early Bird Special

I’ve always enjoyed getting up early, even as a kid, but I’ve never been good at it. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t rushing to get to work or church. I’m rarely late, but boy do I cut it close.

You know those people who always get up early? They’re always at work before everybody else. Is it surprising that they seem to have it all together? Is it a coincidence that all the successful professionals you read about are up before sunrise? Even in the Bible you regularly see Jesus “rising up early” to pray.

So which comes first? Getting up early or being successful? If I start getting up early every day, will the various pieces of my life come flying together and align themselves perfectly? How about this – do millionaires become wildly successful and then start getting up early?

I always feel so productive and relaxed when I wake up early. So why do I do it so infrequently?

It’s time for a challenge. For the next seven days, I’m going to wake up at or before 6 AM. However, I need you, dear Reader, to hold me accountable. To prove that I’m up, I’ll be posting to the blog every morning before 6:30. If that little time-stamp on the post is 6:31 or later, then call me out, and I will owe you…perhaps a coke or a cup of coffee.

Feel free to join me. Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself, “6:00 isn’t that early, you wimp.” Well, feel free to show me up. (Comments have those cute little time stamps, too.)

In the words of Tobias from “Arrested Development,” “Let the great experiment begin!!!”
